Symptom

  • You are performing an upgrade using SUM and receive this error in DEFINE-TARGET-SOURCE_XX.LOG:

Jan 19, 2017 7:43:02 AM [Error ]: The following problem has occurred during step execution: com.sap.sdt.j2ee.tools.spxmlparser.SPXmlParserException: /software/Portal/portal750/MP_Stack_2000138779_20170118_.xml is not a valid stack definition file. Element 'sp-level' not found in element 'support-package'.

  • When you check the stack xml file, you find that the elment 'sp level' is missing under the element 'support package' for a software component (MSS ADD-ON 1.0 in this case).
