2436659 - “You do not have permission to view/edit this data/field” message when attempting to edit candidate background-element fields for internal candidates - Recruiting Management

This article describes the process to be followed in order to avoid the issue that occurs when attempting to edit an internal candidate background-element field as a recruiter. When attempting to make any change on the aforementioned field, by the moment the recruiter tries to save the changes, they get an error message saying “You do not have permission to view/edit this data/field”

Background elements in the Candidate Profile Template are configured using sm-mapping, so we can have all the background Candidate Profile entries automatically synchronized with the Employee Profile. Due to this, fields with sm-mapping will reflect the permissions specified in the Employee Profile XML (Succession data model) for internal candidate profiles, regardless of how they are permissioned in the Candidate Profile XML. Which means that even if the recruiter is properly permissioned (on the Candidate Profile Template) to perform such change on candidate profile, they might still not be able to, because the system is actually looking at the permissions specified in the Employee Profile XML. Even with Role-Based Permissions enabled, it is still required to have Write permission for (*) in the succession-data-model. In this specific scenario, Recruiting is not checking RBP background element permissions either, it is checking EP XML background element permissions instead.

Having said that, please have your Employee Profile XML (succession data model) properly configured so the desired Recruiting dynamic group may perform the expected Candidate Profile Change.

It is also important to mention that the (now required) permissioning changes to be performed on the XML templates, may not be under SAP Support scope. For more information about the changes that Support can perform, please refer to this knowledge base article.
