Environment

Reproducing the Issue

Some examples of the unexpected behavior include, but are not limited to:

  • "generic" field is visible in Manage Permission Roles (RBP) but not in the UI.
  • "generic" field not visible in Add New Employee Wizard but visible in People Profile.
  • "generic" field visible in both Global Info and Dependents Global Info, when it should only be visible in one of these places.
  • "generic" field was visible, but is no longer visible with no permission change.

Cause

The cause of this issue is using a "generic" field such as genericString, genericNumber or genericDate that is not supported for that specific country.

Resolution

"generic" and "address" fields are defined specifically for countries. These are the pre-deliverd fields for capturing Global Information. It is not supported to configure a "generic" field for a country, when it is not supported for the country.

You can find an accurate and up to date list of fields in the Employee Central Country Specifics handbook. Make sure to consult this handbook regulary when implementing new Global Information fields for any country.

If there is a requirement for more fields for a country than are currently delivered, please ensure you use a "custom" field for this purpose, such as -:

  • custom-string
  • custom-date
  • custom-double
  • custom-long

You can find the usable range of these custom fields for Global Information in the Data Object Tables in Employee Central hanbook.

FAQ

Q) Can I use a "custom" field for more than one country?
A) Yes. You can configure the "custom" field for more than one country AND it can be configured differently for each country. This in turn means that you can have up to 20 custom-string, custom-date, custom-double, custom-long fields for each country

For example:

custom-string3 could be configured as a Required PICKLIST field for one country and a non-Required STRING field for another country.
