2451255 - Msg 14021 & Msg 0401042C: Invalid login attempted by user - SRS

Symptom

  • In SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE), the Replication Agent (RA) is enabled with sp_config_rep_agent command
  • Attempt to start the RA and fails with messages:
     RepAgent(8): Received the following error message from the Replication Server: Msg 14021. Invalid login attempted by user 'RA user'.
     RepAgent(8): Received the following communications error message: Msg 0401042C:
     ct_connect(): protocol specific layer: external error: The attempt to connect to the server failed..
     Error: 9214, Severity: 16, State: 
     RepAgent(8): Failed to connect to Replication Server. 
     Error: 9261, Severity: 20, State:
     RepAgent(8): This Rep Agent Thread is aborting due to an unrecoverable communications or Replication Server error.
     Rep Agent Thread for database 'pdb' (dbid = 8) terminated abnormally with error. (major 92, minor 61)
