2453997 - S4/HANA: BMG142 The numeric material number is longer than 18 characters

Symptom

In S4HANA will not allow us to create a numeric material number longer than 18 characters even though we have enabled field length extension and configured OMSL to "40" character length.

  • When creating material (external assignment) with length greater than 18, system is giving error message "The numeric material number is longer than 18 characters ".
  • When creating material (Internal assignment), system creates the material by padding leading zero's in MARA table, but it is only padding up to 18 characters.
