2457908 - Opening a .docx file returns "Error while loading document" - SAPGUI

Symptom

Opening a .docx file throws the following error messages:

"Error while loading document"
"Message no. SOFFICEINTEGRATION142"

For example, running an automation and office integration trace (per note 158985 and 1887367) returns the following:
