2461723 - Error Message: "XYZ (Org Unit Name) Not Permitted; ID Already in Use" When Activating an Organizational Unit

When attempting to save or activate an organizational structure, the system displays the following error message:

ID XYZ (Org Unit Name) not permitted; ID already in use.

(XYZ represents the Org Unit ID)

1. Go to the Organizational Management work center.

2. Select Edit Org Structures under Common Tasks.

3. Select the respective Organizational Unit.

4. Attempt to save or activate the Org Structure.

5. The system will display the error message: ID XYZ (Org Unit Name) not permitted; ID already in use.

There are different reasons that could have caused this issue:

Cause 1: An Org Unit with a specific ID was already activated, and another Org Unit with the same ID is being activated.

Cause 2: An Org Unit was previously activated and then deleted. This can be verified in the Changes tab of Org Unit XYZ in the Active Area. In the Planning Area, Org Unit XYZ was deleted, and a new Org Unit with the same ID was created.

The issue occurs when a new Org Unit with the same ID is created before the deletion is activated, causing a conflict when trying to activate the changes.

Resolution for Cause 1:

To delete the inactive Org Structure with the same ID, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Organizational Management work center.

2. Select the Edit button.

3. If the Org Unit is not in the Planning Area, it may be hidden.

4. Click the Select Org Structures button, where all structures, including those with the same ID, will be displayed.

5. If the Org Unit is listed in the Available Org Structures section, select the Org Unit and click the arrow to move it to the Selected Org Structures. Then, click OK.

6. Now, you will see all Org Units in the Planning Area.

7. Select the duplicate Org Unit and click Delete.

8. After deleting the duplicate, you can activate the original structure without any issues.
   
   

Resolution for Cause 2:

To prevent this issue, it is recommended to activate the Org Structure after deleting the Org Unit and before creating a new Org Unit with the same ID. To ensure this process is smooth, use the Roll Back option to revert all changes made in the Planning Area:

• Note: Rolling back will delete all changes in the Planning Area and revert to the last active version.

1. Go to the Planning Area of the Organizational Structure.

2. Click the Roll Back button.

3. Delete the Org Unit XYZ and activate the deletion.

4. After the deletion is activated, you can create a new Org Unit with the same ID.
