Symptom

  • Primary instance is up and updates in primary instance working fine.
  • Connections to shadow instance getting aborted.

    Upgrade phase "NTACT_ALTNT_PRE" aborted with severe errors
    PID ###### exited with status 232 (time    0.00 real)

    Severe error(s) occurred in phase MAIN_SHDPREPUT/NTACT_ALTNT_PRE!
     
  • SLOG740:

    ERROR: Connect to SMP failed (20170421092925, [ASE Error SQL30046:08S01][SAP][ASE ODBC Driver]
    Connection to the server has been lost. Connection died while reading from socket. Socket returned error code 10054. ERRNO returned 0. Check the server to determine the status of any open transactions.).
     
  • ASE Errorlog:
    Error: 1601, Severity: 17, State: 3
    There are not enough 'user connections' available to start a new process. Retry when there are fewer active users, or ask your System Administrator to reconfigure ASE with more user connections.
