2467642 - Error Message: Bal. Carryforward not Executed for Company ABC, Set of Books XYZ, and Year

Symptom

You are receiving an error message as below when you execute balance carryfoward.

Bal. carryforward not executed for company ABC, set of books XYZ, and year.

(Here ABC refers to Company id and XYZ refers to Set of books id)

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the General Ledger work center.
  2. Go to the Periodic Tasks View and Balance Carry Forward Sub-view.
  3. Click on new Carry Forward.
  4. Enter Company: ABC; Year To Be Carried Forward:YYYY and Balance Carryforward Step: 2 - Calculate and carry forward profit/loss.
  5. Click on Start Now.

An error message is displayed: Bal. carryforward not executed for company ABC, set of books XYZ, and year.

Cause

The error is because you have not executed the Balance Carryforward Step 1 in Update Mode for the set of books XYZ. You need to execute Step 1: Carry the G/L account balances forward in update mode and then execute step 2 to view the results.

Balance Carry Forward consists of two steps:

1. Step 1: Carry Forward G/L Account Balances
2. Step 2: Calculate and Carry Forward Profit/Loss

Resolution

  1. Go to the General Ledger work center.
  2. Go to Periodic Tasks View and Balance Carry Forward Sub-view.
  3. Click on new Carry Forward.
  4. Enter Company: ABC;Year To Be Carried Forward:YYYY and Balance Carryforward Step: 1 - Carry forward G/L account balances.
  5. Click on Start Now.

Once you execute balance carryforward for Step 1: Carry Forward G/L Account Balance, then you will be able execute for Step: 2 - Calculate and carry forward profit/loss without this error message.
