2471725 - Long running spid in "recv sleep" blocking other sessions and/or stopping log truncation due to open tran - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • In an ASE server, there is a long running process (spid) with
    • a status of "recv sleep" and
    • cmd showing "AWAITING COMMAND" and
    • a starttime that is well before the current time

  • This process shows a transaction name of $user_transaction or $chained_transaction
  • This process is blocking other ASE spids, which can show as "lock sleep" and/or
  • This process is causing the transaction log to fill up as a dump tran is not releasing log space
