Symptom
- A process (spid) executiing a DUMP TRANSACTION command with a status of "sleeping" is shown in the sysprocesses table:
spid cmd blocked hostname hostprocess login status
----- ----- ---------- ------------- ---------------- ------- --------
157 DUMP TRANSACTION 0 <host> 9920 <login> sleeping
- "kill <spid>" does not kill the spid
- "kill <spid> with force" does remove the spid from the sp_who output but the process remains in sysprocesses.
- The ALTER DATABASE command to expand the database is blocked by the DUMP TRANSACTION process.
