2478386 - Cannot import an Excel file to create a model in SAP Analytics Cloud (BOC)

Symptom

  • Cannot import an Excel file to create a model in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) in SAP Analytics Cloud (formerly known as SAP BusinessObjects Cloud / BOC)
  • The error "An error exception occurred in the Data Acquisition service." occurs

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create an Excel file with data in Column A-E and Row 1-10 to make a crosstable from A1 to E10.
  2. Input any value in a cell that is not next to this crosstable, such as inputting "1" in Cell I2.
  3. Log into SAC.
  4. Go to Create -> Model ->Import a file from your computer.
  5. Choose that Excel file and click Import.
  6. The error  "An error exception occurred in the Data Acquisition service." shows.

Cause

In this situation, there is a crosstable and a separate cell in this Excel file. So when importing this Excel file, it tries to create a model based on a crosstable and a separate cell. It will fail because it doesn't fit the structure of a model in SAC.

Resolution

Delete the cell or add the cell into the crosstable.
