2489636 - "len" and "char_length" functions do not show correct character count - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Functions "len" and "char_length" do not show the correct character count when using nchar columns 
  • The function len(), which according to the documentation specifically "Returns the number of characters, not the number of bytes, of a specified string expression, excluding trailing blanks", actually returns the maximum possible number of bytes for nchar-columns, when the content has no multibyte characters, and other values if it contains multibyte chars.
