Symptom
- In a High Availability system, you try to create a new device by DISK INIT command.
- DISK INIT command does not raise any error, but the device does not exist.
1> disk init name = "testdb_dev", physname = "/work/devices/testdb_dev.dat", size = "50M"
2> go
1> sp_helpdevice testdb_dev
2> go
Msg 17610, Level 16, State 1:
Server 'ASE1', Procedure 'sp_helpdevice', Line 38:
No such i/o device exists.
(1 row affected)
(return status = 1)

- ASE errorlog shows the device was deactivated.
kernel Initializing virtual device 5, '/work/devices/testdb_dev.dat' with dsync 'on'.
kernel Virtual device 5 started using asynchronous i/o.
kernel Initializing device /work/devices/testdb_dev.dat from offset 0 with zeros.
kernel Finished initialization.
kernel Deactivating virtual device 5, '/work/devices/testdb_dev.dat'.
