2496413 - Proxy Error on WebDynpro Java application on Portal

Symptom

  • When accessing a WebDynpro Java application through a Portal iView, you see the following error:

Proxy Error
Reason: Error reading from remote server

  • In the defaultTrace files, you can find the following error:

HTTP request to servlet [dispatcher] finished with error. The error is: com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: The connection is closed.
...
Caused by: com.sap.engine.services.servlets_jsp.server.exceptions.WebIOException: The connection is closed.

  • You have a reverse proxy in front of the system
  • The issue happens usually when the application takes some time (e.g. more than 10 seconds) to execute and return a result to the user
