2503441 - Upgrading the version of Java used for SCJ

Symptom

  • Sybase Central (SCC) is used with earlier versions of Sybase Online Banking, including Sybase Online Corporate Banking 8.2 and SAP Online Business Banking 8.3 to manage several components of the application including Bill Payment Warehouse (BPW), the Universal Alerts Engine (UAE), and Entitlements
  • The version of Sybase Central included with Sybase Corporate Online Banking 8.2, SAP Online Retail Banking 8.3, and SAP Online Business Banking 8.3 uses Java 1.6
  • Oracle is no longer releasing updates for Java 1.6 and newer versions of Java may address possible vulnerabilities in Java
  • Based on this information, the following questions have been asked:
    1. Does Sybase Central use its own bundled Java implementation?
    2. Can the version of Java used with Sybase Central included with Sybase Corporate Online Banking 8.2, SAP Online Retail Banking 8.3, and SAP Online Business Banking 8.3 be upgraded to Java 1.7 or Java 1.8?
    3. If not, can the Java 1.6 implementation be updated to apply all available Java 1.6 patches?
