2504655 - Tomcat crashes with OutOfMemoryError on Business Intelligence Platform

Symptom

  • Tomcat crashes regularly with out of memory (OOM) errors:

Exception: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError thrown from the UncaughtExceptionHandler in thread "http-bio-8080-exec-<value>"

or

Caused by: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
Exception in thread "http-bio-8080-exec-<value>" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

  • When checking the hprof file with Memory Analyzer, in the consideration Tomcat has the heap dumps parameter in place in the Java Options: -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -XX:HeapDumpPath=C:\temp, the issue appear to be related to a large number of objects on WebI com.businessobjects.rebean.wi.impl.engine.DocumentInstance class and the com.businessobjects.sdk.core.server.internal.storage.InMemoryPersistStrategy$InMemoryPersistRecord (as per the Top Consumers report, "Biggest Top-Level Dominator Classes")
