2510968 - "[file] is an invalid transaction log" when starting SAP IQ

Symptom

Upon starting an SAP IQ 15.x or 16.x database, the following error occurs:

I. 07/27 14:42:03. Transaction log: /usr/local/sybase16/IQ-16_0/mydb.log
E. 07/27 14:42:03. Error: Cannot open transaction log file -- /usr/local/sybase16/IQ-16_0/mydb.log is an invalid transaction log
E. 07/27 14:42:04. Cannot open transaction log file -- /usr/local/sybase16/IQ-16_0/mydb.log is an invalid transaction log
I. 07/27 14:42:04. Database server shutdown due to startup error
I. 07/27 14:42:06. Database server stopped at Thu Jul 27 2017 14:42

The error often occurs after restarting the SAP IQ server after the filesystem containing SAP IQ files has filled up.
