Advanced Reporting - When a query has more than one table - How to make additional tables selectable as Driving Table ?

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

Creata a Multi Table Query:

  1. Create a new query
  2. Add first table and fields
  3. Add more tables and fields
  4. Select Date Options - Only the First table is available to select as Driving Table ( example below: Global Job Information )

Cause

When a query has more than one table, the first table pulled into the query will become the driving (or controlling) table – identified by the green outline in Advanced View.

Only the first table in the query and any tables which has an inner join to the first table can be used as the driving table.

Resolution

  1. Open your query

    Left join.png

  2. Select the "Object" tab
  3. Click on the Join icon
  4. Change the joins from "Left" to "Inner" joins.

  5. Now go to Date Options > Driving table > all the tables with inner join to the first become selectable as "Driving Table".

Driving Table Options :
The driving table is the main table that we are reporting on. Only the first table in the query and any tables which has an inner join to the first table can be used as the driving table.
