2516340 - Error: Operation Not Possible; Inventory Item Locked By Another User, Inventory Update For Inventory Notification Failed

When we are trying to check the status of the failed Inventory Notifications in Business Communication Monitoring following error message is shown.

• Operation not possible; inventory item locked by another user XYZ (XYZ represents the user ID).
• Inventory update for inventory notification failed.

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Go to Third party Logistics Work Center.
2. Navigate to Business Communication Monitoring View.

We observed following error messages as mentioned below

• Operation not possible; inventory item locked by another user XYZ.
• Inventory update for inventory notification failed.

The inventory lock issue crops up because multiple messages are trying to acquire lock at a certain time, and that’s because these messages are triggered with very little time interval between them.

• You need to ensure that there is proper time interval between the Release of the documents/message so that inventory lock is taken care of.
• If the message in BCM has the status Long Running, you can choose to Restart the message to trigger system processing the message again.
