2518821 - SUM Error: Missing delimiter '=' in line; Error reading line 1 of profile

Symptom

During an upgrade using the Software Update Manager (SUM), similar error is reported on SUM screen in Execution/Preprocessing phase:

Error: Missing delimiter '=' in line ....
Error reading line 1 of profile ... DEFAULT.PFL
Error reading system profiles ....
