2533571 - PREP_PRE_CHECK/PROFREAD:Error:DDIC password does not work

Symptom

While performing an upgrade using Software Update Manager tool, phase 'PREP_PRE_CHECK/PROFREAD' fails with following error in PROFREAD.LOG:

4 ETQ399 Starting dialog 'Passwords' at 20170911142307.
1 ETQ359 RFC Login to: System="<SID>", AsHost="<HOSTNAME>" Nr="00", Client="000", GwHost="<HOSTNAME>", GwService="<NAME>"
2EETQ231 RFC Login failed
4EETQ399 Dialogue validator 'DDICValidator' failed with 'DDIC password does not work:
RFC login to system <SID> ashost <HOSTNAME> nr <nn> gwhost <HOSTNAME> gwservice <NAME> failed with code 3 key CALL_FUNCTION_SIGNON_INCOMPL: Incomplete logon data..

You are sure that the input password for DDIC user is correct and you can log on to the system with the same password.
