2534002 - Filtering a Report Throws Error Message 'Value not Valid for Variable'

Symptom

While trying to filter a report with a value in selection throws an error message 'Value not valid for variable' even though the value exists in the report.

Environment

  • SAP Business ByDesign
  • SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Business Analytics work center.
  2. Open a report.

Try to filter the report using a description value for a characteristic like Account, Product or Material.
You will get an error like 'Value not valid for variable'.

Cause

The characteristic like Account is bound to ID not with description though it displays both ID and description. Hence it can only be filtered with ID.

Resolution

As a workaround you can search for the characteristic with description in value help as explained below.

  1. Open the value help by clicking on the square help button on the right of the field.
  2. Search the description in the value help.
  3. Click OK.
