2535152 - Inconsistencies in Report Selections / Filters in Custom Reports

Symptom

You have created a custom data source and report. When you now use the selection area or a filter, you notice inconsistent behaviours, such as:

You have a field ABC (ABC represents the name of a field) which was added to the selection area. When you start the report without any selection, it shows the value Unassigned (#). However when you enter a specific value, e.g. 123, the report shows the value 123 as well. You would expect that the value 123 is listed straight away, even when no selection is entered.

Other scenarios are possible, however they have in common that the report result is not consistent with different selections / filters / views.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the report from the Reports view of the respective work center.
  2. Set the variables as required for your scenario.
  3. Start the report.

The results are not as expected from the selection / filter.

Cause

This behaviour is usually caused by a wrong modelling of the data source, or sometimes the report.

Resolution

Please check the design of your data source:

  1. Go to the Business Analytics work center, view Design Data Sources.
  2. Search for the data source that the report is based on.
  3. Click on Edit, then click on Check.

If any errors or warnings come up here, they need to be resolved. Typically, the most common cause is a wrong join condition, for example an ID field is mapped to a UUID field. Another issue can be that the joined field do not actually show the same content.

If required, please check with your implementation partner on how to resolve inconsistencies in custom data sources. You can also use the tips on the following blogs:
