2538909 - How can I export / move / copy / transport content and data between two tenants in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)?

Symptom

  • How can I export / move / copy / transport content (i.e. models, stories, allocations, users, connections, etc.) and acquired/import model data (transaction) between two systems in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)?
  • Can a two system landscape (test / production) in SAP Analytics Cloud be used
  • Start here SAP Analytics Cloud – Landscape Architecture & Life-cycle Management.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise)

Resolution

General Information

  • Two separate tenants are required for content migration, for example a production tenant and a test tenant.
  • Content can only be imported in the same version of the tenant from which it was exported, or the subsequent version. After your tenant is upgraded again, you cannot import the content.
      • The patch level number (third / 3rd value) does not matter.
      • Only the release (version / wave) number is relevant (second / 2nd value). For example, (Year.Release.Patch-level2020.1.02020.2.4).
    • There is no automated way to perform transports between tenants.

      Using Content Network Storage

      • With the Content Network Storage transport option, you can share content across tenants (also called tenants) from one or more landscapes.
      • Access from Main menu > Transport > Export / Import > Content Network Storage.
      • See Sharing Content with Other Systems for more information.
      • Caution:
        • The source and destination tenants need to be on the same quarterly version of SAC, or the following quarterly version.
        • If the importing tenant is on an older version, the package won’t appear. If it’s two or more versions ahead of the exporting tenant, the package’s content may not be supported.
        • This is not allowed between SAC tenants that are based on:
          • SAP Neo and Cloud Foundry platform
          • EUDP and non-EUDP

      Using local .package file

      • You can download Analytics Content Network packages to a local file from one tenant, and also upload those local packages to the Content Network storage of another tenant.
      • It is often requested by SAP Support to troubleshoot issues.
      • See Downloading and Uploading Files with the Content Network for more information.
      • Caution:
        • Only one package can be downloaded at a time.
        • Any downloaded package has a validity of one year. You have to re-download the package from source if it has expired.
        • When uploading a package, if the package version is greater than the SAC version, then the upload fails. Uploading a package succeeds only when the package version is less than or equal to the SAC version.

      Using SAP Cloud Transport Management

      • Transport content packages across different landscapes by integrating SAC with SAP Cloud Transport Management system. This integration allows you to create insightful stories where the objects can seamlessly transport between landscapes.
      • See Transporting Your Content Through SAP Cloud Transport Management for more information

[Deprecated] Using the Transport (file) Method (zipped / .TGZ files)

      • Export of *.tgz files is deprecated from first quarter of 2024. It is recommended to use the Content Network instead.
      • File system (*.tgz) is not available for SAC tenants hosted on Google Cloud Platform and tenants based on HANA Cloud in all data centers.
      • Access from Main Menu > Transport > Export / Import > File System.
      • See Transport Your Private Content Through File System for more information
      • Caution:
        • Only public files (not private files) can be transported. Shared files that exist under private folders are not exportable.
