Resolution
If you do not wish to see feed updates from your sub groups in your main group feed, one option is to stop following the sub group (My Group Settings >> Stop following This Group).
Please note though that when you stop following the sub group, feed updates from that sub group will no longer display in the home feed, in addition to the main group; to view feed updates from the sub group, you would need to navigate into that specific sub group.
