2543696 - SYBMULTBUF ERROR reported when using cumulative database dumps - ASE 16.0 SP02 PL04

Symptom

  • Taking cumulative database dumps

dump database <database> cumulative to 'compress::3::<path>'
go

  • Getting the following error when dumping database:

Oct 1 00:01:41 2017: A00: SYBMULTBUF ERROR: Emulator interprocess communication failed with error state = 1, error code=0, system message=Pipe I/O returned 0 bytes.
Oct 1 00:01:41 2017: A01: SYBMULTBUF ERROR: Emulator interprocess communication failed with error state = 1, error code=0, system message=Pipe I/O returned 0 bytes.
Oct 1 00:01:41 2017: A03: SYBMULTBUF ERROR: Emulator interprocess communication failed with error state = 1, error code=0, system message=Pipe I/O returned 0 bytes.
Oct 1 00:01:41 2017: A04: SYBMULTBUF ERROR: Emulator interprocess communication failed with error state = 1, error code=0, system message=Pipe I/O returned 0 bytes.
Oct 1 00:01:41 2017: A06: SYBMULTBUF ERROR: Emulator interprocess communication failed with error state = 1, error code=0, system message=Pipe I/O returned 0 bytes.

  • Removing "cumulative" syntax, the dump database succeeds
  • Database being dump had once reported the following 6918 error

Error: 6918, Severity: 21, State: 2
The SYSDAMS page that stores the state of page 0 in database '<database>' could not be found. The option 'allow incremental dumps' will be disabled because ASE cannot continue recording page modifications. Please contact SAP Technical Support.
