2549066 - Error Message When Download a Report to Xlsx or XML Format; Report cannot be opened

You are trying to export a report to XLSX or XML format, you receive an error message after the report is loaded:

• Report cannot be opened; report an case
• Failed to open report "Internal Server Error" - report an case.

You may also get the same error Message when you send the report as E-Mail Attachments a Xlsx or XML format. In both cases no report data is displayed and you can only close the report screen.

• SAP Business By Design

Scenario One:

1. Go to the Work Center Business Analytics.
2. Go to the View Design Report.
3. Find and Execute the report you would like to download.
4. Click on the "Share" icon and select "Report in Microsoft Excel in XML Format"

Scenario Two:

1. Go to the Work Center Business Analytics.
2. Go to the View Design Report.
3. Find and Open the report you would like to send as E-Mail Attachments a Xlsx or XML format.
4. Click on the "Share" icon and select "As Email Link (Microsoft Excel in XML Format)"
5. Add a valid E-Mail address.

In both cases after some time the following error message shows up: Report cannot be open - please report an case.

In many cases the cause is due to the huge data that is being fetched in the report and that leads to a time out.
Report has more formatting information so the file size becomes big and during processing it leads to memory issues and these reported dumps are encountered.

If it is a custom report (possibly based on a custom data source), the modeling of that report or the data source may not be optimal.

To avoid the Dump (time out) use the following options:

• Use CSV Format and open it in Excel for the same amount of data. In case it is needed to see the data in XML or XLXS format,  please reduce the amount of records with a selection on some variables in the report to limit the data.
• If you need to send the report as an E-Mail Attachment, broadcast the report and choose the CSV format.
• Reduce the report data by adding variables in the report selection.
• For custom data sources and reports, it is strongly recommended that they adhere to the best practices of modeling analytical objects.
