Symptom
The following error occurs when trying to export data from a chart or table widget in a story in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC): "Export failed: The data cannot be displayed because the query returned too many records. Please try filtering your data."
Environment
SAP Analytics Cloud.
Reproducing the Issue
- Login to SAC.
- Open a story including chart or table widget with data.
- Select the widget >> Click on the three dots (More Actions) >> Export.
- Fill in the required information and click Export.
>> Notice the following error "Export failed: The data cannot be displayed because the query returned too many records. Please try filtering your data."
Cause
The number of cells exported exceeds the limitations of SAP Analytics Cloud documented in the online help: Export Chart and Table Data from Stories | SAP Help Portal (Please review the "Restrictions Specific to Scope and File Type" section)
Resolution
- Add filters to reduce the number of cells exported.
- Exceeding the maximum number of records is easier than expected when exporting a large number of columns since the total number of cells is calculated as the number of columns multiplied by the number of rows.
