Changes made to the Head of Department field on the Department object via Manage Data are not reflected in the related Position Matrix Relationship.

Similarly, changes to the headOfUnit field on Department are not propagated to the managerID field in Job Information.

This is expected system behavior. The standard SAP SuccessFactors design does not provide a synchronization process that propagates changes from the Department Foundation Object to Position Matrix Relationships or Job Information manager fields. Supported standard automation works in the opposite direction, from Position to Department. Additionally, this scenario is not supported by Off Cycle Event Batch due to technical limitations when deriving manager information from MDF-based fields.

There is no standard automatic process available to propagate changes from the Department object to the Position Matrix Relationship or the Job Information managerID field.

As a workaround, administrators can use Mass Changes (or data imports) to manually update the Job Information > Manager field for affected employees. For example, a Mass Change Group can be defined based on Department, and the appropriate Head of Unit can then be assigned as the manager for the selected population.
