2556090 - The new sysdatabase versiondbid column shows incorrect values after upgrade - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • After upgrade to ASE 16.0 SP03 PL0x
  • The versiondbid column from sysdatabase system table shows incorrect value(s)
  • For example below query could return versiondbid 123 , 2 or another invalid number:

select versiondbid,name from master..sysdatabases

 versiondbid   name
 ---------------   -----------
            123    master
            123    model
            123    tempdb

  • These incorrect versiondbid values can cause problems when attempting to downgrade from ASE 16.0 SP03 PL0X to pre-SP03 versions (such as ASE 16.0 SP02, SP02 PL04, etc.) For example, when running sp_downgrade_esd to downgrade, an error message can occur:

"Database master: Catalog sysdatabases found with 3 rows with versiondbid column still in use"
