2557760 - Error Message: “Updating interval BUPA__BUPA_03 failed; interval already in use” While Changing the Number Range for Business Partners

You have configured the Number Range for Business Partners in Business Configuration and further, created the Business Partners in the system. Your requirement is to change the existing Number Range to different range, but you are not able to proceed due to the error:

1. Go to Business Configuration work center
2. Select Implementation Projects view or Overview
3. Search and Open the activity General Business Partners
4. Select Define Number Ranges for Business Partners
5. Try to change the existing Number Range
6. Select Save
7. System throws the mentioned error

All types of Business Partners (Customers, Suppliers, Contacts) share number ranges, therefore, you must avoid clashes for all Business Partner types.

The old Number Ranges which is defined previously in the system is currently being used by other Business Partners which are already existing in the system.

You would not be able to change the Number Range interval as there is a Veto check in the backend that identifies that there is already a Business Partner in the system, as you already uploaded some records.

So the attempt is to change the interval to new values, where there is at least one number already used from this interval for an already existing Business Partner is not allowed because it would lead to collisions of numbers.

You may extend the End Number in the interval to a higher range. When you adapt the interval boundaries, ensure that they do not overlap with existing Business Partners and of course not with each other. This might require some tries based on which IDs are already in use.

Further, it is not possible to change or swap the Number Range between Manual and Automatic once the Business Partners are already uploaded. It is also not supported to delete Master Data.
