2558456 - Msg 206 or Msg 529 reported when insert a FLOAT, VARCHAR or other data into table - ASE

Symptom

  • Statement cache is enabled.
  • These errors reported when inserting float data into a table:

    Msg 206, Level 16, State 2:
    Server 'ASE':
    Operand type clash: FLOAT is incompatible with MAINTENANCE TOKEN

    Msg 529, Level 16, State 2

    Server 'ASE SERVER'
    Explicit conversion from datatype 'FLOAT' to 'UNITEXT' is not allowed.

    OR

    Msg 206, Level 16, State 2:
    Server 'ASE SERVER', Line XX:
    Operand type clash: MAINTENANCE TOKEN is incompatible with VARCHAR
  • In some case ASE server also could hit infected with signal 4 or 11
  • At address showE_STMT or LeStoreOp::_LeOpShowOp or query_text
    • Other addresses are possible, usually also indentifiable as functions related to query execution
  • In all cases, the stacktrace will include some or most of the following modules:

showE_STMT
show_plan
le_showPLL
showMainE_STEPs
showplan
show_plan__fdpr_1

  • The insert may fail without error when the "large allocation auto tune" is set to 1 (default).
