2567557 - Proxy performance degrades after a few weeks - SAP PD

Symptom

  • Performance starts degrading several days/weeks after the Proxy Server was rebooted.
  • Connection to the Repository takes up to at least 1 minute vs. 5 seconds when using an ODBC Direct connection profile.
  • This also applies to Checking in/out, Comparing models, etc.
  • There is a lot of memory free on the server.
  • The Proxy log file shows that the count of threads (clients) is getting bigger and is not released: the server performance suffers when it reaches a certain level.

warning - status: 58 clients, 60 sockets, 1 db connections, 5.9KB for pipes, 18 own/839 total threads, 369.3MB private bytes, 5.8GB available of 8.5GB physical memory, 6.9GB available of 9.9GB virtual memory
warning - status: 61 clients, 63 sockets, 1 db connections, 6.2KB for pipes, 20 own/771 total threads, 369.8MB private bytes, 5.9GB available of 8.5GB physical memory, 6.9GB available of 9.9GB virtual memory
warning - status: 62 clients, 64 sockets, 1 db connections, 6.3KB for pipes, 21 own/783 total threads, 370MB private bytes, 5.9GB available of 8.5GB physical memory, 6.9GB available of 9.9GB virtual memory
warning - status: 63 clients, 65 sockets, 1 db connections, 6.7KB for pipes, 22 own/785 total threads, 369.8MB private bytes, 5.9GB available of 8.5GB physical memory, 6.9GB available of 9.9GB virtual memory

  • The proxy server is trying to establish a connection to the Repository 20-30 times per second.
In the log file it looks like the following:

warning - SProxyDbCnct(0): new connection to PD Repository Repository1
warning - SProxyDbCnct(0): new connection to PD Repository Repository2
warning - SProxyDbCnct(0): new connection to PD Repository Repository1
warning - SProxyDbCnct(0): new connection to PD Repository Repository2
... and so on.
