2568001 - Employee Department Field is Empty when the Employee is Assigned to an Organizational Unit as a Manager


When an employee is assigned to an org unit as a manager, the Department field of that employee is empty.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Administrator work center.
  2. Select the General Settings view.
  3. Click on Org Structures.
  4. Click on an Org Structure ID.
  5. Go to the Employees tab.
  6. Click on Add under Managers Object Work List.
  7. Add Employee as Manager.


The org unit precedes the department in the Organizational Hierarchy. This means that when an employee is added to an Org Unit as a manager, this employee will potentially be connected to multiple Departments (as Org Units can have multiple Departments in their hierarchy) and therefore cannot be attached to one.


This is expected system behaviour. However, if you require to attach an Org Unit Manager back to a Department, it is possible to add them as an employee also. Once that's done, that manager will again have a department attached as they will also be an employee.
