2574282 - Does Crystal Reports support SAP GUI 7.5?

Symptom

  • Is SAP GUI 7.5 suppported by Crystal Reports?

  • On a computer where the SAP GUI 7.5 is installed, when attempting to login to an SAP System from Crystal Reports, it fails with the error:
       
        "Failed to retrieve SSO2 logon ticket, please contact BW Administrator.
         COM exception caught in CExtToolBar::InitOpenSaveDialog(). HR=0x 90000001
         COM exception caught in CExtToolBar::InitializeGlobalData(). HR=0x90000001"
     
    Or with an error like:
          
        "COM exception caught in CExToolBar::GenerateNewTemplate(). HR = 0x8002000e
         COM exception caught in CExToolBar::InitOpenSaveDialog(). HR = 0x8002000e
         COM exception caught in CExToolBar::InitializeGlobalData(). HR = 0x8002000e"

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2011
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2013
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2020
            
  • SAP GUI 7.5

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Install SAP GUI 7.5
  2. Install Crystal Reports.
  3. In Crystal Reports, when attempting to connect to an SAP System, it fails with the error: "Failed to retrieve SSO2 logon ticket..."

Cause

  • SAP GUI 7.5 is supported with:
    • Crystal Reports 2016 - Support Pack 05 - Patch 100 and higher
    • Crystal Reports 2013 - Support Pack 12 and higher
                               
  • SAP GUI 7.5 is not supported with:
    • Crystal Reports 2011
                  
  • In Crystal Reports 2016 and 2013, if the error occurs when trying to connect to an SAP System, it's because you are not at the product update version where SAP GUI 7.5 started to be supported.
        
  • Crystal Reports 2020 does not rely on the version of SAP GUI installed on the local computer to connect to SAP Data Sources,  therefore you can have any version of SAP GUI installed on the same computer.

Resolution

  • To connect successfully to an SAP System from Crystal Reports 2013 or 2016, when the SAP GUI 7.5 is installed on the same computer:
            
    1. Install the SAP GUI 750 - Patch 5 Hotfix 1 or higher.
        
    2. Install the SAP GUI 750 - BI Add-on - Patch 303 or higher.
        
    3. Install Crystal Reports updates that supports SAP GUI 7.5
      • For Crystal Reports 2016 - Install Support Pack 05 - Patch 100 or higher.
      • For Crystal Reports 2013 - Install Support Pack 12 or higher.
             
    4. Load the SAP Integration Kit Transports to your SAP System, that are found in the product update of Crystal Reports installation package.
