Symptom
You are Unable to upload Product Attachment due to the Error "Conversion not valid; quantity types must be different".
Reproducing the Issue
1) Go to workcenter Data Workbench
2) Click on Import tab
3) Under Attachments, select Product Attachment and download the metadata
4) Fill the required fields and name the file as Manifest.csv
5) Zip the Manifest file along with the Attachment to be imported
6) Execute Import
Cause
The cause behind this is that the given Quantity Conversion is explicitly maintained in the Product data (Administration tab).
The conversion between metric tons and kilograms is a natural conversion. It is not necessary to maintain this conversion in the master data of the product.
When you try to maintain this conversion , the system understands it as a custom conversion, triggering the error you are facing. Even if the conversion is correct.
Hence it is not required to maintain the quantity conversion for Tons to Kilograms, the system will identify the conversion automatically.
The same behavior applies for all the other natural conversions, such as meters to kilometers, hours to days, etc.
Resolution
You only need to maintain a Quantity Conversion when you use business units such as box, each, etc.
There can be a case where the Product data is replicated from some other legacy system where the Conversion is maintained and the Quantity conversion cannot be directly removed in the Administration Tab as it throws an error ""Quantity Conversion change: The product is used in one or more sales documents. "
In such cases, it is required to change the severity from Message Severity Configuration. This will let you delete the conversion.
NOTE: Please follow the below steps to change the Message Severity:
1) Go to workcenter Business Configuration
2) Select Overview view
3) Select the activity Materials
4) Click on Message Severity Configuration and change the Severity.
