Symptom
You have created a Fixed Asset ABC (ABC is the ID of the Fixed Asset). The Fixed Asset ABC is to be valuated according to two Set of Books XYZ (XYZ stands for Set of Books 1) and KLM (KLM stands for Set of Books 2).
You see that for Set of Books XYZ, the Useful Life Years/Periods is NNN years/periods (N stands for any number of years or periods) and the Depreciation Method is NXXX (NXXX stands for the Depreciation Method).
But for Set of Books KLM, the Useful Life Years/Periods is MMM years/periods (M stands for any number of years or periods) and the Depreciation Method is MXXX (MXXX stands for the Depreciation Method).
You want the same Depreciation Method for both the Set of Books.
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to the Fixed Assets work centre.
- Go to the Fixed Assets view.
- Search and select Fixed Asset ABC.
- Navigate to the Basic Data sub tab in the Master Data tab.
The Fixed Asset Class is maintained as ZZZZ (ZZZZ represents the Fixed Asset Class).
- Navigate to the Asset Valuation sub tab in the Master Data tab.
You see that for Set of Books XYZ, the Useful Life Years/Periods is NNN years/periods and the Depreciation Method is NXXX.
But for Set of Books KLM, the Useful Life Years/Periods is MMM years/periods and the Depreciation Method is MXXX.
Resolution
The system first determines whether the mentioned asset is a low value asset or not.
Once this is determined the system checks the valuation view of the Set of Books to find out the default depreciation method for the fixed asset.
This can be checked in the Business Configuration either via the Activity Fixed Asset Classes or via the Activity Fixed Assets Valuation View.
You can check this as follows:
- Go to the Business Configuration work centre.
- Go to the Overview View.
- Search and select the Activity Fixed Asset Classes.
- Click View/ Change Immediately.
- Click on the Edit fixed asset classes link.
- Search and select Asset Class ZZZZ.
- Under Details, navigate to the Default Valuation Settings.
- Search and select Valuation View for Set of Books XYZ.
The Depreciation Method is maintained as NXXX with Default Useful Life in Fiscal Years as NNN.
- Search and select Valuation View for Set of Books KLM.
The Depreciation Method is maintained as MXXX with Default Useful Life in Fiscal Years as MMM.
You will need to maintain the correct depreciation method here.
It would also be necessary to check the Activity Fixed Assets Valuation View especially if the Fixed Asset is a Low value asset and the above mentioned check shows the same depreciation method maintained for both Set of Books.
You can check this as follows:
- Go to the Business Configuration work centre.
- Go to the Overview View.
- Search and select the Activity Fixed Assets Valuation View.
- Click View/ Change Immediately.
- Search and select the Valuation View for Set of Books XYZ.
- Under Details check the Default Depreciation Method for Low-Value Assets.
The Depreciation Method is maintained as NXXX with Default Useful Life in Fiscal Years as NNN.
- Search and select Valuation View for Set of Books KLM.
- Under Details check the Default Depreciation Method for Low-Value Assets.
The Depreciation Method is maintained as MXXX with Default Useful Life in Fiscal Years as MMM.
You will need to maintain the correct depreciation method here also.
