Symptom
When exporting a Learning report to a .csv file, the leading zeros on IDs are missing when opened in MS Excel.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Learning
Reproducing the Issue
- The LMS has Item IDs, User IDs, etc., that are numeric only >
- Run a report that returns numeric IDs and outputs to a CSV file >
- Open the CSV file in MS Excel >
- Note that the leading zeros are removed.
Cause
This is the expected behavior of Microsoft Excel and is a third-party issue. The zeros are being exported by Learning.
Resolution
- View the .csv export in a text editor such as Notepad, and you will see the zeros are visible.
- To preserve the leading zeros when viewing the CSV in MS Excel, format the column containing the IDs as Text before saving.
- Refer to Microsoft support for additional assistance if needed.
