2582788 - When exporting Learning reports to CSV, leading 0s in IDs are missing

Symptom

When exporting a Learning report to .csv, the leading 0s on IDs are missing when opened in MS Excel

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Learning Management System (LMS)

Reproducing the Issue

  1. The LMS has Item IDs, User IDs, etc that are numeric only
  2. Logon to LMS as a user that can run reports
  3. Run a report that returns the numeric IDs and outputs to CSV
  4. Open the CSV in MS Excel
  5. Note that the leading 0s are removed

Cause

  • This is the expected behavior of Microsoft Excel and is a 3rd party issue
  • The 0s are being exported by the LMS Reporting Service

Resolution

  • View the .csv export in a text editor such as Notepad and the 0s are visible
  • To preserve the leading 0s when viewing the CSV in MS Excel, prior to saving, format the column containing the IDs to be Text
  • Refer to the Microsoft support for additional assistance if needed
