The error message “You cannot make this change to the effective start date because time sheets already contain data before the new effective start date.” occurs when modifying Job Information manually or via import. 1. Update an employee’s Job Information manually via the UI or through import (Import Job History / Import Employee Data), for example changes to hire date, position, or time-related fields.
2. When attempting to save the changes, the following error occurs:“You cannot make this change to the effective start date because time sheets already contain data before the new effective start date.”
    

Timesheet data already exists for the employee with dates earlier than the effective start date of the updated Job Information. For example, the job information is updated with an effective date of 01/01/2026, but the employee already has timesheet entries on or before 31/12/2025.

Option 1: Set the effective start date of the Job Information changes to a date earlier than the existing timesheet start date.

Option 2: Delete the existing timesheet data for the employee starting from the effective start date, apply the Job Information changes, and then re-enter the timesheet data.
