2584828 - Password Protected Microsoft Office Files Cannot Be Uploaded

Symptom

Error occurs: 'Password-protected office file' and uploading the file is not possible when trying to upload password-protected MS Office file as an attachment

Environment

  • SAP Cloud for Customer
  • SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

In C4C,

  1. Save or create password protected file.
  2. Try to upload it into C4C system as an attachment.
  3. Result: An error message is raised: 'Password-protected office file'.

IN ByD,

  1. Go to Delivery logistics work center
  2. Go to Purchase Order view
  3. Search for relevant purchase order and choose post goods receipt,
  4. Result: An error message is raised: 'Password-protected office file'.

Cause

The error message is shown because the virus scan is not able to scan the file content when it is password protected and, therefore, will not allow for the file to be uploaded.

Password-protected office file is not supported as per current design.

Resolution

This is expected system behavior, given our security policy.

In order to adjust this behavior, raise a case, so that SAP team can proceed to disable the Virus Scan for password-protected files.

NOTE: changing the virus scanner settings upon request will allow files to be uploaded into C4C and BYD. To keep the security level, files should be scanned before encryption and the parties downloading files should have on-access virus protection active.

As an alternative, remove the password protection from the file.
