2590402 - Portal Fiori and Top Level Navigation are empty due to missing JSESSIONID cookie

Symptom

  • When accessing the main page of the Portal application using the Fiori Framework Page (FFP), no tiles are shown;
  • When accessing the Portal application using AJAX Framework Page (AFP), no applications are shown in the Top Level Navigation (TLN);
  • The server is configured to issue JSESSIONID cookies with the path attribute set;
  • An http trace of the scenario may also show an HTTP 500 error;
  • The defaultTrace may contain the following errors:

    Cannot process an HTTP request to servlet [NavigationServlet] in [AFPServlet] web application.
    [EXCEPTION]
    java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method com.sap.portal.navigation.ws.NavigationTree.getRootNodes() of a null object loaded from local variable 'navigationTree'
    Cannot process an HTTP request to servlet [NavigationServlet] in [AFPServlet] web application.
