2598152 - Error "Interval With Start Number XXX and End Number YYY Must not Overlap"

Symptom

The creation of an automatic number range in the Business Configuration work center fails and the system throws the error: "Interval With Start Number XXX and End Number YYY Must Not Overlap"  (XXX represents the start number and YYY represents the end number). You check the settings but you cannot identify any overlap with the existing manual number range.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Business Configuration work center.
  2. Go to Overview activity.
  3. Find and select the relevant Number Range activity.
  4. Add Row.
  5. Enter Begin Number, End Number, type Automatic and description Internal.
  6. Select Save.
  7. Error: "Interval With Start Number XXX and End Number YYY Must Not Overlap".

Cause

The issue may be caused by alphanumeric values in the interval of a manual number range. These values may cause effects that are not obvious at first sight.
