Symptom
When performing a Job to Position Sync, the system does not synchronize a Manager and Field value change in same transaction
Environment
-
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
-
Position Management
Reproducing the Issue
-
Navigate to My Employee Files > select the intended users > navigate to Employment Information
- Select Take Action > Change Job and Compensation Information
- Select "Job Information" > change the "Department" value, and set a new "Manager"
- Click Save
- Click YES in the pop-up to agree to moving the Position be under the new Managers Position
- Approve the workflow (if applicable)
- Check the Position of the employee you updated
Result = The Position was moved under the Manager's (Higher-Level) Position, but the Department change was not synchronized
Cause
This behaviour is expected. If an employee gets a new Manager, users with the "Option to Move Position to New Supervisor on Job Info Change" permission can opt to have the employee's position also moved to the new Manager.
A popup asking the user to enter a decision on this then appears:
- If the user opts to proceed, the position is transferred along with the employee becomes a lower-level position of the new supervisor’s position. Position Transfer or Position Reclassification – if configured as per event reason – are not triggered in this case.
Resolution
It is now possible to set up the system so that, when an employee gets a new supervisor, his or her position is also moved.
Prerequisites
- The Option to Move Position to New Supervisor on Job Info Change permission must be set in Permission Settings.
- The position hierarchy must be the leading hierarchy.
- The employee is assigned to a position and the position assignment isn't changed.
- The employee's new supervisor is assigned to a position.
- The supervisor change is done in MSS (Take Action > Change Job and Compensation Information).
Effect
If an employee gets a new supervisor, users with this permission can opt to have the employee's position also moved to the new supervisor. A popup asking the user to enter a decision on this then appears:
- If the user opts to proceed, the position is transferred along with the employee becomes a lower-level position of the new supervisor’s position. Position Transfer or Position Reclassification – if configured as per event reason – are not triggered in this case. If there are additional employees assigned to the position and if the hierarchy adaptation is enabled as per position type of the position, these employees will report to the new supervisor too.
- If the user opts not to proceed, the employee is moved, but the position is not.
Please refer to the "Moving Positions When Changing An Employee's Supervisor Assignment" page in the Employee Central Position Management handbook.
If a manager and field change is required, we recommend to carry these out in separate transactions if you require, both changes to be synced to the position.
