2599316 - Region of Birth Field becomes mandatory and Picklist for some Countries in Biographical Information

Symptom

  • In the Biographical Information Portlet, when selecting country/region Of Birth France, Italy, Chile, Brazil or Venezuela, the Region Of Birth becomes a picklist.
  • Region of Birth in Biographical Information Portlet became mandatory for some country/regions

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Edit the Biographical Information of a User
  2. Select France, Italy, Chile, Brazil or Venezuela from the country/region Of Birth Picklist
  3. Notice that Region Of Birth becomes a picklist populated with regions of the selected country/region

Resolution

  • Standard delivery for the field Region of Birth in Biographical Information Portlet, this field is changed to picklist for 5 country/regions (France, Italy, Brazil, Chile, Venezuela) upon selection of the field "Country of Birth" only when the Payroll switch is enabled in the instance.

  • For the rest of the country/regions it is expected to be a free test as configured in the Succession Data Model.

  • These picklists are hardcoded for the above listed country/regions when the Payroll Integration switch is on in provisioning.

Switch: Enable Payroll Integration (Valid for SAP Payroll in ERP Systems) — requires “Enable Generic Objects”, “Enable Translation of Employee Central Foundation Objects”, “Enable the Attachment Manager” and “Employee Central Foundation Objects”

These picklists are hardcoded due to country/region-specific legalities for these country/regions.

We've added a new section, Localized Biographical Information, in the Biographical Information block, and enabled replication of localized biographical information from Employee Central to Employee Central Payroll. The new section contains 3 fields by default: <Country/Region>, <Region of Birth> and <Place of Birth>.

The fields <Region of Birth> and <Place of Birth> can be configured to have an input value of free text or picklist.

If localized biographical information is available for the country/region of employment of an employee, the Region of Birth and the Place of Birth fields replicate from the Localized Biographical Information block. Otherwise, the fields replicate from the Biographical Information block.

Q)The picklists are not offered during a New Hire process.

A) This is known limitation from the Localized Biographical Information.

New Hire Developer team are currently working on a fix and will include the Localized Biographical Information on the New Hire Page to support this requirement addressed by the customer.

There is an enhancement request internal Reference: ECT-84140 and WEF-24656 to enhance the current behavior.

  • Currently there is no fix date available for it.
  • Once it is implemented, it will be included in release notes.
  • You may call SAP hotline number or contact your CSM to know current status of this enhancement request.

NOTE:

  • It is not the supported to switch on "Enable Payroll Integration" for the purpose of making the picklist to appear for the field "Region of Birth" for countries France, Italy Venezuela Braziland Chile if the customer does not have an actual integration to a payroll system.
  • An Enhancement request to have country specific fields under biographical information have been deployed in b2011 Release Via ECT-133343 this will enable you to choose to use free text\picklist value for the input of “Region of Birth” and “Place of Birth” fields, picklist value of “Place of Birth” can be cascaded from the selected value of “Region of Birth”.
