When upgrading from SAP Solution Manager 7.1 to 7.2, you may have to go through the so-called content activation process which is described in the Content Activation Wiki (chapter 2.3 of the Content Activation Guide tells you whether or not you need to go through content activation; if the answer is No, you can skip content activation altogether and you can ignore this knowledge article, too; instead upgrade to SAP Solution Manager 7.2, call transaction PREPARE_ACTIVATION, click Enter Guided Procedure and press button 'Opt out of Content Activation' - afterwards simply start working with your brandnew Solution Manager 7.2).
Content activation can be a complex procedure. To minimize time spent with content activation it is absolutely essential that technically, both your outgoing 7.1 and incoming 7.2 systems are optimally prepared. A crucial element of system preparation is flawless implementation of a number of SAP Notes on both the SAP Solution Manager 7.1 and 7.2 systems. This KBA (2599354) tells you how to achieve just that.
[Until 3 April 2018 there was a predecessor KBA to this KBA (2599354), namely 2536523, together with its accompanying Notes 2324520 and 2403108. Between 4 April 2018 and 1 August 2019 there was the option to either follow the instructions of KBA 2536523 or 2599354. As of 2 August 2019 KBA 2536523 has been taken offline. If you got caught up in the transistion between 2536523 and 2599354 despite the very length transition period and you urgently need to revisit KBA 2536523, open a ticket at SV-SMG-IMP-BIM and put "Content Activation KBA 2536523 not completely executed" in its subject line.]
