Symptom

  • SQL DML fails in SparkR on tables created in Hive
  • SQL DML fails in SparkSQL on tables created in Hive
  • The following exceptions are thrown by Spark jobs:

    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.plan.TableDesc;
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Lorg/apache/hadoop/hive/ql/metadata/Table;
