Symptom
You are trying to order a Purchase Order but the system triggers the following error message “Item XXX: Tax classification for product XYZ missing” (Item XXX represents the relevant Purchase Order Item ID).
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to the Purchase Requests and Orders work center.
- Select the Purchase Orders view.
- Search for the Purchase Oder ABC (ABC represents the relevant Purchase Order ID).
- Click on Order.
The Purchase Order ABC doesn't get ordered and the system displays the error message “Item XXX: Tax classification for product XYZ missing” (Item XXX represents the relevant Purchase Order Item ID).
Cause
You created the Purchase Order ABC with free text item but you have not set the Tax Classification for the relevant Product Category.
Resolution

Go to the Purchase Requests and Orders work center.

Select Set Tax Classification from the Common Tasks menu.

Click on Add Row.

Enter the necessary data to set the Tax Classification for the relevant Product Category.

Click on Save and Activate.
Now you will be able to order the Purchase Order ABC.
