Symptom

  • ASE error log reports a signal 11 at address mempmctrl_free:

Current process (0x488b03c6) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Address 0x0x0000000001d258d8 (mempmctrl_free+0x158), siginfo (code, address) = (1, 0x0x0000023330a80078)

  • With a stack trace including functions:
    • mempmctrl_free
    • mem_freepages
    • free_mempage

  • As the spid affected is holding a spinlock, ASE will crash as result:
    Spinlock Resource->rpmctrl_spin at address 'x' owned by 'y'
  • (Many) more signal 11 / timeslice error may be seen before ASE shuts down
