2604834 - Shutdown of ASE hangs - SAP ASE for Business Suite

Symptom

  • Shutdown ASE in command line (ISQL) or through the Windows service hangs.
  • Check sp_who there is AUDIT PROCESS in sleeping status and here is the stacktrace of the audit process:
    1> dbcc stacktrace(SPID)
    2> go
    A SHUTDOWN command is already in progress. Please log off.
    Start dbcc stacktrace...

  • In the Event viewer of Windows you may see the following message:
    Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion
  • In the ASE error log you may see the following message:

    00:0003:00000:00034:2018/01/21 11:56:03.64 kernel  found active spid <spid>.
